Gents,

Would it be 'so easy' to use the M48A1 from Dragon as a basis together with some parts from the (old) LO Models set and T-142 tracks to create a CM-12 from the Taiwanese forces in 1/35?

Grz,

Sam.

Hobby Fan has a CM-12 conversion, problem is it can be pricey, but I lucked into a $25 one on eBay.

With that, you need an AFV Club CM-11 kit, as the resin conversion basically just gives you the hull.

That's the ingredients I got some time ago anyway, before the new kits were out.

I guess you could also kitbash a Dragon kit with the AFV Club CM-11.

Cheers,

Christophe

The CM12 is basically an upgraded M48A1 hull with an upgraded M48A5 turret.

The Dragon kit provides you with the correct hull and engine deck, and Lo Model set provides you with enough to make a basic M48A5 turret and includes the extra side turret boxes, smoke grenade launchers, and cupola; however, it is missing a few critical items.

On the left side of the turret there is a support ring for the loader's machine gun, and on the back there is a crosswind sensor. On the rear of the tank is also an infantry telephone. None of those items are included in the Lo Model set; however, if you could get your hands on Afv Club's CM11 then you could use the turret from that kit and fit it onto the converted Dragon Hull. Though, I don't know if the Afv Club turret and Dragon hull will fit. Also, I have no idea if Afv Club's T-142 tracks will fit snugly with Dragon's sprockets.

Thank you for the info, I was aware that some additional scratchbuilding is required to make it all complete.

A follow up question, if I may, all the photo's I've seen of the CM-12 are with three return rollers as seen on the M48A2 and not five as on the M48/M48A1, is this correct?

Thx again & grz,

Sam.

That's correct, the CM12 has only 3 return rollers, even though the hull was originally from a M48A1. However, I'm not sure why they removed the other 2 rollers.
