I've been to several AMPS shows in Danbury Conn , and several shows in Wayne NJ and a few in other locations. What makes the National Convention better ? More Vendor ? Its being held there in April 2017 , was wondering if it was worth the 90 min trip . the last 2 shows weren't that hot .

I was at nationals last year and the year before. It's a 3 day event with lots of vendors. Not just the regular local guys like Gene Bagnoli. Squadron has been there in the past as well as other internationally known names such as Mig/Ammo who always has a ton of stuff. Hard Target was also there last year. There are also lots of killer kits for raffle. Also more armor than you can shake a stick at plus all the shop talk among the participants. Really good show all around in my humble opinion. Also forgot mention that there are a number of seminars as well as various demonstrations. These will be posted on the AMPS site as we get closer to April 2017.

I drove with the family to the Sumter SC Nats last year..... even tried out MosquitoCon on the way.... Considering I live in MA, and NJ alone was a 5 hour drive.... the Nats being in CT this year is gonna be AWESOME!!!! The raffle items are going to be some seriously decent stuff, the raffle manager is doing a great job to get high quality stuff for raffle... and when you can buy 20 bucks worth of tickets and come out with 100 bucks worth of cool stuff... its a win win!! and if you buy 20 bucks worth of ticket and come out with nothing but 20 bucks worth of stubs, hey.... its 20 bucks and you are at the NATIONALS BABY!!!! LOL. I was very impressed with the Nationals vendor area in SC, and I fully anticipate Danbury will be the same way. The Hotel being the same site as the convention is a SUPER convenience IMO.... especially for those of us who dont know how to use a GPS LOL

If I remember correctly Tamiya was at the 2014 nationals in Indiana. The vendors and the "big" names are not always the same but there are generally a couple. There are usually a number of modeling heavy hitters that show up as well, Cookie Sewell, Steve Zaloga, and until he passed away Shep Paine. Lots of books and reference material as well. Archer was also there both years I was at nationals.

A hallmark of the annual International show is the cameraderie as people will come in from all over. While I would love to enjoy Armorcon, I just can't justify it. That AMPS International show is on a different scale. My airline tickets are already booked.

It's the largest all-armor show in North America. That's why I drove five hours to Maryland all those times, four hours to Indiana a few times, nine hours to Sumter, ten and a half hours to Atlanta and am willing to drive seven hours to Danbury.

As I recent wrote someone when they asked if I was going to the show:

"Yup, I will be there. It's AMPS."

All, I am the show chairman for this years show. We are still six months away and already more than 70 vendor tables have been reserved. We are lining up a list of seminars from some great people and lets not forget as stated earlier, the largest gathering of armor models in the US. With all that said, the best item is the great people who attend and make it a modeling social event.

As we get close we will have updates on the AMPS website. Look forward to seeing you all there.

Yup,
That is what Kurt said when I asked if he was going to attend. IMHO, with the show being 90 minutes to 2 hours away from you, it is a no brainer... The closest show for me was a mere 15 hour drive from Oklahoma City to Auburn Indiana.

Folks attend for various reasons mentioned above. Me personally, I attend to see folks that are AMPS members that frequent the armor building DGs/FB pages. Folks at the show are generally friendly and will share techniques and secrets of their builds. I would recommend that you do several turns as a field judge, which will result in becoming a better armor modeler. Whatever your reason for attending end up to be, I sincerely hope that I see you in Danbury in April 2017. Look for the guy in the Fraternal Order of Water Buffalo AKA the Grand Poobah hat during the show.

The Crown Plaza is filling up fast. If you go through the AMPS site it's $99 a night (pretty good for the NYC area). I'm staying over Friday night so I can spend some time with my friends there.

Lou,
Good to hear that the excitement is still present. Make sure that you get a couple of turns at the judging tables. Also, ask questions of folks there. Most, if not all whom attend are more than willing to share information, techniques, and tips about their models and how to make your efforts better.

Cant re-state this enough. If you want to become a better modeller, and share alot of different experience levels and get to see stuff up close and personal... TAKE A SHIFT as a judge!!! Mike Pettys judging class is second to none, and will give you the pointers you want to have. Take a second and peruse the AMPS website, download the judging rules, and give them a quick read.... but most importantly... DO IT... best thing I have ever done at either regional show or NATS, aside from draining my bank account and coming home with a car full of goodies LOL
