Hi Guys. Following on from the recent pictures here, where the built up version was shown ...... the bergetiger is now base painted! Primed with an auto primer, painted all over with tamiya earth, then tamiya desert yellow, and camo with tamiya olive green lightened with desert yellow. The tracks were left the earth colour.
A lot of this colouring will be toned down and blended better after washing and filters!
Then I detailed painted. All metal fittings and ropes were humbrol 53 .. gunmetal. Stowage tracks .. Hu 160 German camo red-brown. Rubber wheels .. Hu 33 black. All crane fiitins that camo overspray were painted back to desert yellow Hu93. Tracks tidied up aain with Hu29 earth.
The only painting example given in the instructions is Italy 44. Would this Tiger have been given a number? The kit supplied numbers are individual red with white borders. Would these do, or was there a particular numbering colour used here? Any help or input here would be appreciated!
Im thinking of using Tristars latest figure set ... the DAK tank crew for the figures. Would these be suitable or would something else be better? I have three open hatches with no detail so these need figures! Any ideas?
The item on the tank back... inside the right tow rope ... what is it or what was it used for? Its used on a lot of German kits and I dont know what it is!

I love that tank, you did a really good job. Question, what color did yo paint thos extra tracks?

I know next to nothing of the vehicle, so...

I think that "part" on the rear right side inside the tow rope is called a Tension Bolt. It's for pulling the tracks together for repairs.

If you are referring to the cylindrical shaped object on the right rear deck, that is the fire extinguisher for the tank. It was kept on the outside of all German AFV’s. And yes it was painted the vehicle color as far as I can tell. (I could be wrong).

Nice job with the beast. Will you be doing any more weathering on it? I think it could use just a little more chipping of paint. Other then that nice build.

I just noticed looking at the pictures of the turret that the left and right lifting lugs are missing was this intentional? (each side of the mantlet the open holes)

Thanks very much for all your input guys. The cylinder item could the extinguisher as they are on my Sd.Kfz 222 and Sd.Kfz 223 as well! So I dont think they are torsion bolts. You learn something new everyday! I looked through a lot of pictures of Tigers and they all do seem to be the colour(s) ofthe rest of the tank/vehicle!
As I mentioned earlier, it is only base painted. Decals are next and then washes, filters, chips,pastels, etc.
I sprayed Johnsons on it after these photos were taken, to get the next stage ready!

Yes. The lifting lugs were left out because they are not included in the Italeri kit. I suppose if I had have known what they were I could have scratched them. When looking at pictures of other models I spotted these but did not know what they were for. Im sorry now that i did not add them. Maybe its not too late yet!
Its great to get all these replies as i have found out a few things that will be handy for the next time. I have 2 other tigers... Academy early with interior and tamiya late... to build and this was a sort of experiment first on the cheaper Italeri kit!
The only thing I need now is some information on decals. Has anybody any ideas for markings in Italy?

Missing the lifitng lugs is not a big deal. They can still be added.

The BergeTiger is a controversial vehicle. Its exsistance and uses are still not understood. Here is an artical that may explain.

Since there were only 3 converted, my guess would be that there would be no turret numbers, unless they were on from the original vehicle.
