This is probably a mistake to insert myself into this conversation, but what the hell.
There are various levels in every hobby. There are people in every hobby that just do it in very sparse spare time and don't take it very serious. There are some that get mildly involved in their hobby and then there are people who take it to the fullest. None of which are incorrect. None of them are better or worse in their hobby than the other. No matter which way they go about their hobby, they are doing something they enjoy.
For example, I've been into race cars for a long time. I've built this car from pretty much nothing and I could have paid cash for a very nice home for what I've spent on this car. See, I'm about the middle of the road racer. I love racing, but I don't do it every weekend like some guys that take it very seriously do. And then you have the guys that don't want to spend the kind of money I've spent on a car. Are any of these guys more correct in their hobbies than the other? Nope. Do I look down on someone who doesn't have the same passion as me in this hobby? Nope, I think they are enjoying their hobby they way they want.
The same goes for this hobby. Give your advice, say what you'd do in that situation. If they choose not to take your advice, who gives a crap. Stop forcing your opinions of exactness on everybody else.
Here is my pride and joy.
Just an average, middle of the road dude enjoying his hobby how he sees fit.
Cheers,
Dustin

I have a car far less expensive than that and I love it. I love the car and I love driving. I take pride in the hobby as well and do it carefully, often taking 3-5 months to do a tank with full photo etch, workable tracks, and a metal barrel, but I by no means believe that anyone should be put down because they simply want to enjoy making their model and then be happy with the way it turns out just because it "doesn't fit real battle damage." Doesn't matter if you take a year or 10 hours to do a model, as long as you're happy with it

Dont argue with stupid, they drag you down to their level and win with experience.
Dear Sauerteig,
How you would do something, does not mean everyone else should do too. Its stupid to assume that everyone should drive towards same goal, that ultimately realistic piece of plastic.
This could be and is for some people, a craft or "fine"-scale modeling that you go about. Ans its fine and awesome.
Ever tought that Im not trying to achieve that enlightment?
I think your could be defined as one could call elitist.
I have taken notion of you opinnion on my question and disregarded it, even if that may feel bad for you Im sure you will be able to go on with you craft. I imagine you are having hard time coping with all these different styles and sll in this community of hobbyists doing THEIR thing.
If its not clear, Im sure many people know very well that it may be extremely hard to make the wheel realiticly damaged.
But I think you are missing the point people are trying to make or you are just trying to force feed your view on this.
Ps. I think Im gonna paint the wheel pink. Im sure there was some tone of pink in the 40s?

Really,no reason to close the thread,so far it's been fairly civil. If someone feels that enough has been said, then simply disengage and don't read any more posts, why do we need censorship from moderator at this point.I've seen worse on threads.Im enjoying the point counterpoint going on

Well not that on regard, but that the topic now isnt really what I started with. But what ever if people want to continue on other topic fine, or they could start new thread with proper title.
Other people interested in this damage/realism etc may not find this under the old title as this has very little to do with the panzer wheel at this point.

Well said.
This isn't the first thread to suffer the "Sauerteig Effect" as has already been pointed out, and probably not the last whilst his intolerant and confrontational attitude is tolerated on this site. Other sites such as Missing Lynx, Track Link wisely decided enough was enough and banned him. Do remember you have the "hide user" option.

Alan,
That wouldn't hurt my feelings at all and I had had similar thoughts as well, but then had to remind myself that simply being offensive doesn't constitute grounds for censorship (or at least so we are taught). What I realized was that his personal attacks, his tyrannical perspectives on a pastime, and his abrasive nature really impact me about as much as Sam's choice in how to build/damage/whatever his Panzer IV impacts Mr Sauerteig; i.e. not in the least.
At the end of the day nobody here is obligated to read or respond to anything he posts (any more than any of us are obligated to follow our hobby his way), although I have to acknowledge there is a huge train-wreck effect to it--just can't look away from the horror.
