The kit supposedly uses J13 as a machine gun shield, but the problem is that the kit does not have J sprue. I examined the whole content inside box, but no luck.

Is the kit missing J13? or is it just me being silly.

Here is your pic at a viewable size.

**Remove the /thumbs part from the address to make it full size so it can be seen.

I have not heard of anyone not having this part in previous builds. Are there any other J sprue parts you can't find?

The J sprue in their earlier M1A2 SEP w/TUSK II kit was the sprue with most of the TUSK II parts on it (below pic). The TC's gun shield is almost in the center of it.

Gino,
Thank you for the resized photo.

So far, J13 is the only one designated as a part from the J sprue, and I haven't been able to find any other part equivalent to this. Can you give me link for the builds you've seen?

No, the T sprue has the glass, not the frame that I'm missing.

Guess you're missing the whole J sprue. Which might be an issue if you are building a TUSK version.

Thomas,
I think they got rid of the J sprue from this kit on purpose because it's meant to be built as a regular M1A1/A2 without TUSK armor. My raw guess now is that they forgot to spare J13 when taking out the J sprue...

Huh, weird move from RFM if that's indeed the case.

I wasn't sure which kit you were talking about and was referring to their previous M1A2 Sep TUSK II builds.

Yup, looking at the sprue shots on the preview of the kit here on Armorama, they left out the TC's gun sheild (J13). There is the glass for it on the T sprue (T2), but no shield on any of the sprues.

You don't have to use the front shield with the side shields, which are included (B32 & B33). They have been used independently. The shield doesn't fit on an M1A1, just the M1A2. You don't have to use either actually. So it is really not that big of a deal.

Yes, the J sprue was missing in the sample that Jim got. I got 3 replacement J sprues direct from RFM.

Cowboy, PM me your address and I can send you the gun shield if your still going to do the version in the instructions.

FYI the Gulf War boxing has part callouts from J sprue, but they are mislabeled and on other sprues.

My Rye Field M1A1/A2 is missing a sprue too - the one with the cupola etc. The vendor I bought it from tried to get a replacement sprue and gave up after a few months and refunded my money. I hope to cobble together some spare parts from some Dragon kits, but I can't say as I was very happy with my first Rye Field model.

I received the following email from Rye Field:

Dear David,

Sorry, our instructions made a mistake, J13 and T2 and E70 components are only used for M1A2 TUSK version, M1A2 2003 does not need assembly.
The correct order is: Do not assembly J13 and T2 and E70 parts.
Please kindly refer to the attached picture.

In addition , we missed one step in the instructions. Please check the picture.

Thank you for correcting our mistake.

Best Regards,

Vicky Wei

David, thank you for sharing the email. If you don't mind, can you show those pictures sent by RFM? I wonder which 'one step' they're talking about.

Pete, I've decided to just leave out that gun shield. I highly appreciate your kindness though.

Cowboy, I tried to insert the diagrams, and photo, in a reply yesterday. However, it failed.

I just created an album that you may be able to access.

Go ahead and post them on this string, for others, if you can.

Thanks

Hey guys,

So I have proceeded with my build and just found another wrong direction in the instruction manual. You should not drill those holes if you're building A2 version. The kit does not provide any A2 parts that sit on them.

I've built several Dragon kits, and I still should say this kit has one of the most confusing and misleading instruction manuals out there.

Cowboy,
What you have circled there is for the External Bustle Rack APU cable conduit that you normally see on A1 versions. The red square area is for the TUSK 1 stuff on the A1 version.

But it does seem they rushed to get it out quick and left stuff from the other instructions in it.

Somebody could scan those pages, edit them, and post "The Real Instructions" for this kit.

David,
I am getting the 1991 Desert Storm version for a Blog/Build Review and I also requested the A2 w/Interior since I already did the review build of their first offering. If i do, I will do what you suggested.

Pete, Thanks for clarifying. I was really frustrated when I found out I shouldn't have drilled those for A2 because I already did so.
