Hello Folks,
I'm planning to build for my father a Merkava IIB or D resembling the vehicle(s) I've served on during the '90's. Which kits are available and how do they compare to each other? What AM products are available for these kits?
TIA,
Israel

Go for the Academy Merkava 2D:
https://armorama.kitmaker.net/review/10452

plus the Legend detail set:
http://www-legend.co.kr/portfolio/lf1290-2/?ckattempt=1

and of course some Friul tracks, item no ATL 171:

Thanks, Nikos! The lack of anti-slip is a bit of a turn-down though... Since l have no idea how to replicate it, l'll probably skip it all together...
To be honest, l would prefer a IIB. I've only spent 4 months on the D, feel much more connected to the B.

I don't think so. There's even an export version of it, plus plenty of photos are available. When did the last Merkava offer in 1/35 come out? Was that Meng's?

Academy has also a IIB kit (no 1351) but I do not know how much work it requires to build into a good model.

You will again need friul model tracks.

Replicating the non-slip coating on AFVs is simple provided that you've got some indication of where it needs to go.

Check out Gino's process he's outlined here:

I've used it before and it works great!

Cool, thanks. Looks like a good and fairly simple method.

Here's a link to the PowerPoint presentation I did on it for my model club a few years ago...

Those mounts for the bazooka plates look awful...I hope the AM kit deals with them...

Is there any difference between this and the one with the mine roller (apart from the inclusion of the MR of course...)?

I do not know if the mine roller version includes the pe turret basket.

Scalemates does not have any additional info too.

Legend made a 2B conversion, but it's not listed on their site any more? Might have to try E-bay or others.

So Academy is the only player in town when it comes to the Merkava II... It's a shame since it has been serving longer than any other variant (over 30 years)...

Maybe MENG or ACADEMY or TIGER will decide to release a MKIIB LIC in the future!

Do you mean both Merkava IIB and IID have been exported outside Isreal? Which countries?

No. I was referring to the "Trophy/Windbreaker" system. http://www.israeldefense.co.il/en/content/us-army-testing-israeli-trophy-system
