Hello,
I'm always impressed with the quality of answers to just about any question on this forum.
My question is: does anyone have evidence of Morris C8 Quads in Italy pulling 17pdr AT guns and also ideas for camo and markings.
Thanks,
Robin

well Yes, or maybe...
discussed on Ntework 54
The Morris CS8 (17 pdr tractor) and the Morris FAT QUAD Shared virtually the same chassis, so it should have had the grunt.
The British also fielded a 17/25pdr PHEASANT in North Africa, 17pdr on a 25pdr.
The 17 pdr had a visually similar/if not the same limber as the 25pdr, and it was used with the 17pdrs. I don't Know if it was just the 'trays' the ammo was kept in or there were other differences.
Don't forget that the Morris CS8 and the 17pdr were intended to be air-dropped during D-Day as 2 Hamilcar Glider loads, so it was 'officially' possible.

Thanks for the quick replies.
My Dad's got an Armortek Morris Commercial C8 Quad MkII/III arriving this week. We want to get Armortek's 17pdr sometime in the future and he wants it painted sand, so this is the reasoning behind my question.
It may need a bit of artistic licence then.
About colours, what sort of camo patterns were used in Italy?

Nice Dio idea pic, but Truck probably isn't a Matador, as that had no visible storage racking & a plain tailgate,
looks more like a LAA?
Similar Bodies to the pic with storage were built on the Morris CDSW, the Bedford QLB & Canadian CMP LAA chassis.

Not picking hairs just trying to stop confusion the Morris Quad is a C8 the CS8 is a smaller type truck that would have problems getting a 17pdr on the flat I know that the M5 International half track and GMCs towed the guns in Italy.
By the way there is a photo of a Morris beetle back Quad towing 5.5 in howitzers off an LST at Selerno

The census number prefix depended upon what contract the vehicle was made under and not on the unit/nationality of the operator.
So a 12 Cab Ford FAT built to a British contract would start with H and the same vehicle built to a Canadian contract would have CH. They would then go into depots and mostly end up in the hands of the contracting country, but not always. In this case you have a Canadian-built FAT that was bought under a British contract and then issued to a Canadian unit.
Clear as muck.
