I am not an armor modeler but a friend wanted an E8 Sherman built so I said I would do it. I like dioramas and since he was going to buy all the kits and I could have anything I wanted I said to get the Tamiya Sherman and Panzer and I would put them together for him. Hope this looks ok to all you tank guys and that you will forgive any ignorance on my part as I build. I plan on making the Panzer down and out on the bank of a small river next to the road that the Sherman is on.
Here is the Sherman so far, I used the movie Fury as a reference more or less so again if it is not exactly correct forgive me.

there is a lot to still do on the model as far as paint goes

Doug,
STICK TO SCULPTING FIGURES BUD!!!!!!!!!!!
Just kidding. I don't think there is any type of modeling you can't do Doug. It's awesome and I don't see anything wrong with it as usual.
I remember when I doubted my work and you and the gang at Hobby Maker (Cliff, Arthur, Rick, Brian) encouraged me to enter my first show and I took a couple of 3rd places home.

this is going to be the base for the diorama, the sherman will be up top on the road and the Panzer IV will be in a river down below with one track blown off and the turret unseated.

just hinted to the transmission and engine with some scrap parts as some of the hatches will be open due to the interior fire and explosion of the ammo

Looking good so far, I will be following your progress on this diorama. I really like the action you are portraying with the crew in the Sherman Tank and especially the way the tanks commander is crouching down in the turret is awesome. Thanks for taking the time to share you work with us.

I agree with the others, your figures are awesome. I swear figure painters have microscope eyes and robot hands. I'm also eager to see how this diorama comes along. I'm a sucker for dios.

Thanks everyone for the kind words, I really do like the figure part of modeling the most and so dioramas always seem to be at the top of my list of things to model. Here are some other angles on the Sherman

Nice work so far, I really like what you are doing with this diorama. The muffler is extremely well done, is that where you used the baking soda? Thanks for keeping us updated.

That's a neat idea to use baking soda to replicate uneven surfaces on rusted metal. Baking soda is a lot cheaper than those surfacer products that I have been using. I think I'll give this method a try.

overall shot, of the Panzer, I know that if the turret was blown off the crew would probably have been thrown clear of the tank but this is more dramatic so forgive my hollywooding it up a little.

Those figures are creepy as hell, but beautiful.
My only critique would be that the track on the ground looks funny. Correct me if I'm wrong, but your intent was the vehicle moving in reverse and sliding downward into the water?
My 2 cents (Having been on my M-1s): with the tank in that motion, I would think the track would sink into the ground, catch, shift a bit, the roadwheels, thus the whole tank, would hop the guide teeth and the track would between the transmission doors, in the least. Seen stuff like that happen.
Not sure if PzIV's track would be flexible for it to twist that much?
Again just my opinion. Really gorgeous!
