No issues. The M983A4 LET pics should help since it is basically the same set-up as the M983A2 LET. The winch looks like the same one used on the exterior of the M88A2.



Miniman Factory does the M870A1 trailer to mate to it as well.

So is the M983A2/A4 LET the same as the regular HEMTT Tractor in every other respect other than having the large deck mounted winch?

As Chris is saying here, it sounds like an excellent and easy conversion to the HEMTT Tractor kit. (With just the addition of a scratch built winch!)

The M983A2/A4 LET plus that flatbed heavy equipment trailer would be way cool!

There are two pictures of an armored cab version of this vehicle in the Tankograd American Special #3004 on pages 28-29. It is not an A4 and from what I can make out of the winch, it appears to be smaller then the one on the M88, which is rated at 140,000 lbs. in the one source I have . I was considering using a winch from the M1070 as a basis for my build.

The version you are talking about is the M983 LET (Light Equipment Transporter). The M983A2/A4 LET tractor is mainly used to transport construction and engineer equipment. It has a 45,000 lbs. (20,430 kg) 2 speed hydraulic winch mounted behind the cab used to load the trailer. It does not have a self-recovery winch. The Trumpeter M983 is already an M983A2 version. The winch doesn't make it an A2, it makes it the LET version used by engineer units.
