Could anyone show me show real pics of this tank if there are any.
Or could anyone give me the history of this tank (Turret 111)

Did Revell just make these numbers up or are they true for this tank???

Thankyou

hi

i dont know if Revell used a real tank for reference or not, but when i see this image, the first thing i think of is the retake of Kharkov winter 1942 by the SS Panzerkorps.
Maybe thats a start for your search.

Thanks Tony

Yes I have already had a search for the number on the net and in the books I have but cant seem to find it.

Any help finding a pic or history placing of it would be great

Hi there!

Nice scale and good kit

I think your approach regarding the turret number is a bit off the mark here. As a rule of thumb, a German turret number "111" would translate into:

- 1st company
- 1st platton
- vehicle no. 1 in the platton

Seeing that 653 Panzer III Ls were built and it was a standard tank, it is only fair to assume that at least one company will have had the number in the above mentioned fashion. You can also start from other numbers found in pictures like "122" to say that there probably also was 1st platoon with Panzer III Ls including a vehicle numbered 111.

NOw, as to the colour of the numbers, that's a different story, but white is definetely plausible...

THe closest I could get to white "111" is a white "112":

Good enough?

There is a photo of this tank in Panzer Colors III on page 6. It appears to be a lager of the first Company. Tank 100 is closest and 112 and 111 can be seen in the background.

Winter 1942-43 near Stalingrad. Third Panzer Grenadier division was destroyed in January 1943 along with the rest of 6th Army.

When the kit came out there was some discussion that the division insignia may actually have been red rather than black.
