I could have sworn I saw a feature here a few days ago by Werner Kampfhofer in which he described using a chemical solvent to soften sprue. Then he shaped the sprue with a knife.
Am I going crazy or what? I can't find the feature anywhere! There's one in there by Ian Sadler using putty and shaping tools, but I'm positive there was one in there using a solvent.
Anyway, if anyone has a link to this feature or knows the name of the solvent, please let me know!
Thanks!
Scott

It's still there. It's part of his article on adding texture to armor: https://armorama.kitmaker.net//features/80&page=1

Scott,
I remember I wrote something similar in the "for dummies" saga... you can find it here. That's very basic and it's only good for one type of weld seam. It's anyway working fine.
There's another form Lee Lloyd that's the "university" for weld seams and you can find it here
Or the one you mean is this?
I hope this can help...

Grazie, Fabio!
That's the one I was thinking of! I'm texturing the entire hull of a Sherman tank usng a dremel tool. I was going to experiment with the trichloroethylene as a way of smoothing out or normalizing the texture once the dremel part is done. Any idea how this might work? Is the chemical too aggressive for this?

It depends on how "skilled" are you handling the stuff. The solvent by itself it's wuite aggressive...
