I'd like to share my thoughts/experiences in addressing the issue of correcting the notorious shape flaw of the M1A1/A2 series made by Trumpeter:

What troubles me is that the missing part measures 4mm - as defined in the M1 Tweaks list. However, when I did that on my first Trumpeter M1, it seemed that the end result showed that the bottom of the turret face is now uneven with the opposite side (when looking at the turret head-on). This applies for the first triangluar piece that has to be made.

For the second triangle piece: When viewing the finished product from the left side of the tank, it does not show a defined upward slant towards the turret front, since one has to compensate for the extension made by the first triangle.

Therefore, I am actaully wondering if I did not follow the Tweaks List instructions correctly, or perhaps 4mm is a little too much...?

Hardest thing is I dont have a picture of my finished model to illustrate my concerns.

Anyone have thoughts on this?

Thanks.

I think you're okay so far - the Tweaks List gives you a good starting point for correcting the flaw. You'll have to sand and trim accordingly to make the fillet blend in properly, that's all.

I cut my "triangles" and trimmed them back after attaching them to the Turret shell. I deviated from the Tweaks List suggestions by scoring, bending down, and shoring up the score on the interior of the Turret bottom part to match the fillet on the upper half - and match the right side of the Turret too. I haven't taken a picture or two yet to show the fix - but the Tweaks List recommendation is a good one.
