I'm not an expert, but I highly doubt it. It is an ammunition carrier, not prime mover, so I don't know if it is used to tow any artillery pieces at all. And Long Tom is pretty large beast - I doubt M548 would be capable of towing it. I think 5-ton (M54 maybe?) or even bigger trucks were used for this purpose.

A vehicle like the M548 is assigned to mechanized infantry and armor divisions. Those types of units used self-propelled artillery such as the M109, M107, M110. The Long Tom was an older piece of equipment still assigned to "straight leg" infantry divisions. These units were almost exclusively equipped with wheeled vehicles.
BTW, an M113 chassised vehicle can tow another M113 type vehicle. An M548 has enough power to tow a like vehicle as well so it would be able to pull a Long Tom without problem. It's just that they served in different worlds.

I believe it was used in Korea, it may have seen use in Allied hands early in Vietnam, but I do not know. It was a old weapon, hence the use of the term "served in different worlds."

Thanks for all the info guys, just one or two more posers. What towed the Long Tom,and what if anything, did the Cargo carrier pull, surely it was utilised in this role, knowing that troops need support and supplies.Gear was pressed into use for what it was not intended under difficult conditions. Thanks for the tip on the piece that was a bugger Mike,I've had plenty of experience's like that on several kits, the to do pile just gets bigger!TIA...Dave

The M548 has also been used as a base for several military intelligence rigs like the M1015 in the US army http://www.emersons.net/russ/tacjam.html but not sure what it ever towed but probably the same stuff as towed by a M113 (water 'buffalo' and other M113s).

No that's not my model. I was surprised to find the model pictures. I was just trying to find pictures of the M1015 because my copy of JoMO with the desert colored vehicle on it is at home where I'm not.
