The 10.5cm self propelled howitzer Wespe seems to be the only reason why the classic Panzer 2 chassis remained in production after 1943, when the PZ 2 based Mardars were discontinued in favor of using PZ 38t chassis. Wespe were apparently considered very good and useful. But Wespe production ended in 1944 when the factory making Panzer 2 chassis were overrun by the Russians.
My question is was there any consideration to produce a PZ 38t based Wespe to replace the loss of Panzer 2 chassis production line? It appears the PZ 38t based marder 3 can easily be adopted for 10.5cm howitzer, since PAK 40 75mm AT gun that Marder 3 carries actually uses the same gun to carriage interface as late model 10.5cm howitzer that Wespe uses.

I do plan to make such a hybrid myself. I just want to know if any such attempt occurred in reality.
