Which model of tank is the current Russian main battle tank?
I have some spare change and am looking for a good kit.

The most current in-service tank is the T90.
Zvezda, Trumpeter, and Meng all have recent kits of the T90. Not sure which one is best.
The next gen Russian tank is the T14 Armata. It is expected to be fielded soon. Takom and Panda both have kits of it as well.

Just a note, the T15 Armata is a Heavy Infantry Fighting Vehicle, not a Tank. It is pretty much on par with a Bradley, just bigger and more heavily armored.

FWIW, Zvezda's T-90 is very nice with a detailed parts count. It's cheap too. I watched a nice build video of it.

If your interested in accuracy,it does sit a bit higher then it suppose to,its noticeable when compared to the Meng.

I'd LOVE to see what a Javelin or a 120mm silver bullet would do to one!

That would be a lost of money to waste on a plastic kit.
On the other hand, "modern" MBTS and APCs are more more efficient to counter RPG/anti-tank munitions attacks (Trophy, Afghanit, Arena,...)

T-72 fielded in highest numbers, B3 current version, meng availible, trumpeter out soon
T-80 were mothballed will be bought out for refurbishment next year, not sure what new version will look like
t-90 current top if the line in service, Zvezda rides to high needs surgery. meng fuel drums plumbing needs attention, otherwise nice kit. trumpeter not sure.
t-14 armata, still in development, panda and takom kits are possibly oversize, zvezda due out soon better size as far as I know but have noticed a couple other small issues but considering the vehicle is still in development things can still change

T-72B3 of Trumpeter has come out a pair of years ago.
I have one still to build, looks nice and well detailed, with a lot of photoetched parts.
But! I built a T-90A of Meng (a type that is strictly related and has a lot of commonality with T-72 in the moulds) and I would choose Meng both for T-72 and T-90 family.

That's true. India actually fields more than twice as many T-90s as Russia does. I recently read that Russia was planning to reactivate a large number of the old T-80s they have in storage. It seems there's not much money in Russia for new tanks.

Sorry to disagree sir, Trumpeter has a T-72 mod 1990, not a B3 (B3 doesnt have the turret mount spot light as the most obvious difference but there are others)
