There were no M728s in Baghdad. They were all put out to pasture as range targets by the late '90s.
I believe you are referring to the USMC M88A2 that pulled down the Saddam statue in Firdos Square on 5 Apr 2003.

Where do I sign up, to leave my wallet? This has been on my want list for a long time. I have the PSM kit in my stash, guess it will stay there.

Maybe you meant the 1993 Branch Davidian Seige in Waco, Texas?

I'll stick to the PSM kit .... just finished sanding down the AFV Club hull for the M60A2 ... what a pain
I'll take the Revell hull and supplement it with better AFV parts ... I'm not going thru that ordeal again any time soon ... why did AFV Club come up with the idea to imprint such an unrealistic surface ? .... such a shame !
Cheers

At least one fully functional 728 is left. It is part of the ex-Patton Musium now Ft. Benning armor collection.

For historical significance, you've also got the M728 from B Co of the 2nd Engineer Battalion that participated in Operation Paul Bunyan in Korea. After the Axe Murder Incident in the DMZ, when US and ROK forces responded with a large show of force to cut down the problem tree, a lone M728 went with the infantry. It was the only armor that went into Panmunjom as part of the Operation, and was there to take down a bridge if North Korea responded with hostile force.

Hello Chris,
I respect you for remembering that part of history. My family has served in the ROK many times since 1950. We remember the names of CPT Arthur Bonifas and 1LT Mark Barrett as well as the other honorable men who served on that detail each August 18.
I was not aware that an M728 had moved forward as part of Operation Paul Bunyan. That might prove to be a worthy subject for a diorama.
Thank you,
Allen

You are very welcome! One of the main reasons I build models is to be able to tell stories that wouldn't otherwise get told.
B Co had an M728 there to assist in taking down Freedom Bridge if the North Koreans decided to rush south in force. I don't *think* that it actually went into the JSA that day, but don't quote me on that part. It was definitely part of the Operation though.

A dozer tank. I have a photo walkaround of an M60A2 dozer from an IPMS/USA in the 1970s.
Basically for them to follow the release schedule they did for the Centurion. Basic gun tanks, a dozer and every imaginable Israeli variant.

There never was 1/35 M728 from Academy or in fact anyone else in plastic.

The axe murder incident:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axe_murder_incident
"The incident is also known alternatively as the hatchet incident, the poplar tree incident, and the tree trimming incident."
"a team from B Company, commanded by Captain Walter Seifried, had activated the detonation systems for the charges on Freedom Bridge and had the 165mm main gun of the M728 combat engineer vehicle aimed mid-span to ensure that the bridge would fall should the order be given for its destruction"
Doesn't say from which distance or location that the gun was aimed ....
