These are the beginning reference photos to my next project involving a CH-47 and an extraction in Afghanistan.

I know they are blurry but that is the nature of the beast when taking screen shots.

Cool! I've got a Chinook in my stash just waiting to be built. This build log might give some inspiration: Chinook

Join in, John!

Russ Bucy is also going to be working on a Chinook project... maybe... hopefully... I'm not speaking for him but he has a great dio in mind!

BTW, the build log that you referenced was my original idea but since it has been done (and in 1/35th scale), why reinvent the wheel?

I am going 1/72 which is still pretty stout. In order to achieve the effect I want, the finished diorama should be around 15"x18"x18" or maybe 20" tall... just depends...

thanks for the link anyway! I am trying for one surprise that no one else usually attempts so we will see. I always try to do one more thing.

Thanks Patrick! Mine will be a little different, as it's a "Muleskinners" CH47A pulling an M113 out of a mire in Vietnam. There's a famous photo in "Vietnam Tracks" of this operation as well as some on line photos. I've been working on mine for about three years now off and on, and have some hurdles to overcome in "suspending" the '47 above the track, with the rotors turning. I've seen several "in-flight" models on display, what kills the them all for me is actually seeing the rotors moving-- so I'm working on lightweight motorization. Unfortunately, I'll be going slow as I have at least three projects underway right now-- a contribution to the NWSM seaplane display at the Seattle Museum of flight, a large diorama of NASA's Launch Complex 14 (John Glen's Mercury launch) and a 417th Tk Bn. dio I started last year. So you'll probably finish before me at the rate you build!

This was always such a cool topic for me. I was wondering when someone would take the challenge and build one up. Nice!
I did a few mobile ops in these rotor wings and also jumped a few times in Panama and Germany with these.
I will be following this one for sure.

Oh God... no I'm just kidding, Jerry. I would be honored to have your input. The figures are going to be rather small so I don't think I will have a lot of detailing in the works. And your input will be valuable... as with all the other members!

Drawings will be next... and I don't anticipate a lot of progress until Santa season is over!

All comments and criticisms are always welcome!
