Hi Everyone, Seasons greetings. I'm picking up an old project after a break for a few years, depicting two 110 Landrover DPV's, and probably a (Meng) HiLux... "somewhere in the middle east"... They have been in storage, anyhow my interest is sparked up again.
The DPV's are effectively huge HOBBYBOSS WMIK's and RSOV conversions alot of scratch building and alot of resin, and hopefully some bits from Accurate Armour. I'm pleased to see that there is alot of choice for bits and pieces and some great figures out there to help with depicting a modern Brit SF's scene.
My problem is a real lack of modern British comms equipment, I'm guessing that UKSF have used alot of American gear, but am also aware that UKSF have used the indigenous British (Bowman)comms equipment.
Ive trawled through the net but have found no reference material, or after market resin or kits, has anyone else come across this or has anyone actually solved the problem.
Any thoughts and ideas welcome.

When I did an R-WMIK a few years ago I could find hardly any photos of the Bowman system - probably not surprising really. I built a partial set based on a couple of fuzzy photos for my WMIK

Based also on experience with an SAS Pink Panther (Tamiya) build that I did more recently, British SF will use a mix of 'standard' British Army kit and far more specialist items that may be purchased commercially. I ended up scratchbuilding several of the Clansman elements that I needed because I couldn't find them in resin.

I'm not aware of any aftermarket providers who offer the Bowman radios. The international SF community often seems to mix and match their equipment, so US-style satellite comms gear (I think there are a couple of sets available in resin?) would seem a logical and likely option (but I'm no expert on the matter).

Jane's publishes a series of yearbooks, one of which covers comms kit. They used to be wildly expensive for private purchase but you might find older editions for sale as the target market (professional users) may dispose of them when the new edition appears. I have a few from the 80s and paid nothing like retail for them. I doubt they are any cheaper now!
