I don't think the ads themselves are a problem - I like modelling ads and often click them. The problem is the very aggressive ad blocker blocker. i have set armorama.com on my filters list, but the blocker still recognises that it's on - I have to turn it off completely (exit). This then means that I have to switch it on and off as I flick between sites... I am now sadly visiting Armorama less due to this.

Which ad blocker are you using? I have AdBlock Plus installed just for testing and such and all I have to do is tell it to "Disable" for the sites I don't want to use it on and that's it. And my adblock blocking script is gone after refreshing the window and never comes back unless I enable the site again.

I will update this original post by stating again that this is becoming more and more the norm. Since doing this I can count maybe 20+ sites I have visited that don't allow users to see content if they are using an ad blocking extension. More over I am seeing things that are even not working (that should work) by me even using an Ad Blocker. Meaning they aren't perfect and if you ever wonder why something isn't working right on a site you are on, there is a very good chance it's due to some needed javascript or something that the ad blocker is stopping from working. This is why I serious stopped using mine on sites I actually use a lot like YouTube, Twitch, and others.

Hi Jim. I'm using Ad Fender, maybe I should switch to another 'blocker'. As I said, I fully understand the need for ads and do use them - however sites like ebay, which I also use stop working if I don't use an ad blocker - so I have switch it on and off as I go at the moment.

I use Adblock Latitude and Ublock Origin with Kitmaker sites white listed. Ghostery is also good. But the fact remains that the use of adblockers is increasing. And people who are using them to protect their machines and going to sites that totally block them aren't going back so those sites are losing that traffic because word gets around. I use them because of the java hijacks, redirects, popunders, popovers, banners, the multiple attempts at installing mal-ware and offensive ads. Also to protect my machines from inexperienced kids browsing habits. I've been coming to this site for years but back then if I had run into the warning to that I'd have to disable my PC's protection to access the site at all, I'd have said "nope, not coming back here".

If site owners want the traffic, rather than just sell ad space to anyone, vet the ads to make sure that they aren't containing content that your customers may find offensive. It's up to the site admin to make sure their site is user friendly not the advertisers who are out to make a buck. If you get feedback saying your site is overload with ads then listen to your market. Wired tried to use draconian tactics to force people to stop using adblocker but it backfired.
