Hi all,

I am at the very end of building a very Late Panther G and also a FlakPanther 3,7 (Coelian).

My question which neither Google nor the usual fora have been able to solve in a proper manner, is the color of the flame suppressors, Flammvernichter, Flammentoter, whatever.

They both have the un-hooded variant with the grilles on top and so far I have seen models built with these both in normal camo as well as burnt/rusted finishes or combinations of both.

I realize they were just soft steel tubes and as they essentially trapped the flames - as well as the standard heat - from the exhaust, they would get pretty hot, fast. Thus the idea of them flaking any paint off quickly during operation and turning reddish rusty like Pz IV mufflers seems plausible.

All opinions and especially any photo data welcome!

Thanks!

They would have been painted the top-coat / camo colors -- the same as the rest of the rear bulkhead -- but it would have disappeared almost instantly

Spielberger says the exhaust pipes " glowed "

They would be rust color. Any paint would have burned off, and under high temperature the steel would rapidly oxidize.
