I am planning on painting my Humvee this weekend but I have a few quetions about the colours. I intend to use the three "new" colours from tamiya but the green looks a bit dark to me. Can anyone give me some advice on how to ligthen this and maybe other colours ? Any other suggestions are of course very welcome ! #:-)

Thanks in advance,
Marc

According to my intell you don't have to lighten the color...
Take a look at my M1A2 in nato colors, that's Tamiya Nato green...

Marc,

Green color is fine - you don't have to lighten it. You can if you want (but I suggest adding a drop of Tamiya Buff, not white), as this color indeed looks lighter sometimes on real armor, but once you apply the full camouflage, the contrast with black color makes the green look lighter than in the bottle and quite correct. See photo of my Bradley below - green and black are Tamiya NATO paints out of the bottle. The only color that is definitely incorrect for US Armor is Tamiya NATO Brown. On Jurgens photo you can see that it is much too red. It looks better on Bundeswehr armor (after all Tamiya designed those paints for their Leopard 2A5 kit!), as Germans use slightly different colors, but for American armor Tamiya Red-Brown is much closer match (again see photo of my Brad).

Pawel

I use the Polly Scale NATO colors and since I wanted a faded look on the last vehicle I built, I had to lighten them. I used Polly Scales 'aged white'. Worked great! I used 20 - 30 % to lighten.

Depends on how much you want to lighten it . The green fades the most then the black , the red OOB is a bit cark and can use some help . Most HUMVEEs are re-painted more often than tanks so there arent a lot of those that are in dire need of a paint job -I'll have to post a pic of one of my tanks (1/1 scale ) that I had last year it looks awfull .

I prefer a more faded look. That is how the vehicles in my motor pool look. I use the following colors of Testors Model Master enamels. Flat black FS 1749, medium green FS 34102, and field drab FS 30118. Comes out pretty realistic once weathered with a light drybrushing. Here is an example:
