New year, new project though this might take a while due to another project ( painting/wallpapering my sons first appartment.....).
While googling I found this picture of Fortuno Matania so at least it's clear what Andrea used to make this diorama.
It will be build "out of the box" for 99% and it will be my very first tank ever....

Been doing some more research but this fight actually took place
Fray Bentos
The tank actually has a name and the commander is known also, Donald Richardson and...it took place exactly 40 years before I was born.

Groundwork has started. First raw-umber airbrush, dark earth wash and drybrush with tan-eart,desert-yellow and light grey. Adding some thinned clear varnish for the 'wet-effect' (must be dry-brushed a little ).

I really like this! I want to do something similar with the Takom Mk. 1 I have.

The progress is zero at this moment. I'm moving in to a larger room with a much larger workbench which will make it easier to build these bigger items but in the meantime I went on a search for a picture of the commancer of this tank, Donald H. Richardson. Made a post on a WW1 forum and bingo !! One of the members is friends with the grandsons of Richardson. They even come over to the mainland every once in a while and visit the location of the event. Well, I've got the picture of the man. That will be a great addition to the diorama once it is finished. I'm even thinking of adding the (copy of ) medal he got for his bravery.

Took a while but I've picked up the work on the tankfight. First figure added because I'm a bit scared on starting on the tank.....
For now it's just rusty....

I'll be following this one Hans,
excellent mud & track imprint. Good luck painting the tank, are you going to follow Matania's - is it correct? - looks too bright but I guess it might have been its first engagement?
Cheers, Tim

Dave and Tim,
Thanks for the compliments. The tank is dark rust now. It looks light because of the picture. I'm going "by the book" and by the advice given by Anthony in another post :
1.basecoat,in your case rust.
2.chipping fluid or Hairspray.
3.basecoat color,like gray,yellow,camo,OD,whatever you are building.
4.then you chip
5.I seal with clear
5.washing and weathering
But I'm not in a hurry to start.... . This process is very new to me so I'm trying to delay it as much as possible
As for the mud -and trackimprint....the base came with the box so those credits are not mine to deserve....

Hans, a great project you have going ! Do you also have the companion book from Andrea, "Tank Fight 1916"? I was going to build it but decided my skill levels weren't good enough after reading it. Good luck and you're off to a great start!
Please keep us posted on your build !

No, don't have the book and, reading your post, I'm glad I don't. Couldn't get it here, in Holland
If I make a mess of it know I can blame it on not having read the book
There's a lot of info about making this model and I got me the FAQ book on painring tanks. Only thing that's giving me the shivers is my little knowledge of airbrushing. Never did a tank before but hell, no guts no glory.
Never painted Samurai-japs before and look how that turned out

Well, here's some progress on the first tank I made in my life. Read the book, using all techniques ( airbrush, grime, chipping fluid, oil paints.....) and in my humble opinion it doesn't even look that bad... Tracks are next and then things are going to get muddy.
Tips are allways welcome since, as said, I never did this before.

Looking really good Hans - I'm not clear, are you still doing camo on top or leaving as is? I like it just the way it is...and you should seriously consider a hobby-career in tank building!

Thanks Tim. No camo. I will add more weathering though.
I've been looking for examples on the net and the FAQ-book helps a lot.
( bought all three of them and they are really helpfull).
Thanks for the compliment and I guess I'll make more vehicles in the future. Really gerting into the matter by reading about techniques ànd having the right tools etc. is very important but, looking at some of the stuff here there's still a lot to learn.
As for the "readers" of this post, let me inow if you want me to post more pictures of the process or just the final result and don't hesitate to give tips that help me improve things.

Here's some pictures. I like the "old" ones.
