Question about Sherman Crab

Hello
I have a ResiCast conversion Crab mk1 for Sherman m4a4.
Is it possible to mount this Crab mk1 on earlier Sherman like m4a3 or even m4a2 ?

It might be possible to mount it on other hull types but the real ones were all on M4A4s.

This picture is in the Hunnicutt Sherman book, shown as reference only. The base tank is a late production small drivers hatch M4. This is very odd because all the pictures I've seen of Crabs in service were M4A4 based. Even the US made versions based on the British design were made with the M4A4. A prototype maybe?
