Good evening. Dragon recently re-released their venerable JS-2M (6018) under Cyberhobby and added a few free gen 2 weapons (I was hoping they'd give free figures but whatever). I was wondering if anyone has seen this kit and done a review/comparison? Did they change the errors in the older kit? The earlier JS1/2 Cyberhobby kit definitely improved on the failings of the older kit. I wonder if they did the same for this release.
Picture of the kit:

I don't think they made any serious improvements. They would have to make a new lower hull and road wheels. Magic track and firearms is all you can expect. That's the general practice for this series of kits.
What did they improve in their JS-1?

Unfortunately, all Cyberhobby Orange Box kits ever do is rebox the original Dragon kits exactly the same way but with extra figures or weapons; they don't fix any issues with the old kits

From what I read - they actually retooled the lower hull for the JS1/2 series when it got re-released along with minor improvements. However, the roadwheels remain undersized. I am most curious if they bothered to include the updated lower hull in this particular release.

Are there firm proofs of new/reworked/improved lower hull?
Never heard of it. What they call JS-2m is standard (not post-war) JS-2 mod. 1944 with straight nose. Tamiya 35289 is the best choice IMHO. The 'm' version is offered by Trumpeter, but it also has some serious flaws and the price is ridiculously high:

What are the flaws with the Trumpeter kit? I have it in my stash but haven't found any reviews of it online yet.

Does your kit include DShKM for turret roof and corresponding fittings on turret right side? Is the cupola round when you look at it from above (plan view)? Are the return rollers of post-war type (with caps of larger diameter)?

I did notice it missing the DshKM as well at most of the IR fittings the post war rebuilds carried, but I had just chalked it up to them basing the kit on one of the Museum displays they "researched," being that the only pics I can find of a JS-2 Model 44 rebuild matches everything missing on the kit. I'll have to take a closer look at the return rollers though. But I do know they at least included the ten bolt hubs on the road wheels

As for the return rollers, it is not diameter, but the shape of the convex part of the cover that differs them from each other. Tamiya parts are good for wartime vehicles...

See the bottom of the first page. Gray parts are post-war.
Cheers

According to this review - they fixed some issues.

I honestly would prefer building the Tamiya version - but it has been out of stock for 3 years locally and have been waiting for a while to get it

Buying from Asia makes sense. Their prices are lower even with postage rates.
Besides, you can always go to Ebay or to your national modelling forums.
