What did you use to make the walls of the building and how did you create the texture on cinder blocks?

The walls were constructed using foam board bought from here - - easy to use foam.
This was then primed with PVA glue (its very porous) before an undercoat of primer - it was then just base concrete colour/washes and dry brushing..

I am just curious about your choice of base... it seems a little crowded and I am not sure I personally like the rear of the one vehicle hanging over the edge... it seems like you are bleeding the action off the edge.
It is just a personal opinion. But why not make the base large enough to contain the scene? Your work is excellent and the execution of the burnt out car and military vehicle are beyond my abilities for sure. But it is just that one little thing...

Thanks for the comments much appreciated.
The choice of base came about from trying to be as compact as possible with as much within view as possible- I have always worked on the premise that there shouldn't be any area that doesn't have something o interest in.- be it a figure, a barrel , a bottle of water etc.
With regards the truck hanging of the base I want to portray a element of 'just arrived' ie vehicle has come round the corner to a sudden halt and the crew have dismounted to take up a fighting position.

I'm with you on this one. Well done. I too like the compact look. I try to stay compact due to space, especially working in 1/24 scale. It might seem over-crowded but in this situation, it works.

Yep bravo Paul, that’s a lot of work & planning and the result looks just right. I get what Patrick meant about the size of the dio base but I think the first photo in your above post illustrates why it works so well – the entire tottering structure off-balance on its base, pretty much the definition of ruin in that current tragedy.
Cheers,
Tim

Well done Paul, I really like it how turned out. My first impression upon seeing your bldg is that war really suc*s, but civil war must be the worst, if that even makes any sense. Great touch w/ that.
I agree w/ the observation regrding the vehicle hanging over the edge. But I get it, your reasoning is right on as well! This has been well thought, and it shows.
Who makes the bed frame? I might have to pick one of those up.
Regards
Dave

My only observation regarding the vehicle hanging over the edge is that I don´t get where the vehicle is coming from. The street corner is on the other side of the building, and unless it is the smallest block in Alepo, the vehicle is in some kind of "space" between buildings, or sticking out of some kind of garage. But there is no hint to either. The fact that it is only "half" the car does not bother me in the least. You can feel the drama of the scene! again, great job!

Marcos
I hear what your saying - I suppose in the planning my intention is some form of garage between buildings - as the diorama is coming to a point in tis area I found it difficult to show this.

This diorama could be... a little bit bigger. Just a little bit. And the backside looks odd to me - the first floor covered with black plate, the second one with visible inner side of the wall. But thats details, not disturbing in having a great pleasure in watching this very well executed little scene. Congratulations
