I'm looking for "the best books" on ;
- figure painting
- making diorama's / landscapes
- painting/weathering etc.
What books can you recommend on these subjects because I'm not always satisfied with my current skills.

As far as painting and weathering there are currently lots of schools of thought out there now.You can consider Mike Rinaldi's stuff or Mig Jimemez,or Adam Wilder. The old master Shep Paine has books out on dioramas and armor painting as does Verlinden. The books aren't real cheap, the Internet can be a source of a lot of info also.Tey Amazon, search your subject and lots of authors will come up also.

Just to clear,Wilder,Rinaldi,Jimenez,Verlinden, and Paine all have solid books out.I just mentioned the internet as an additional source. I do prefer printed materials myself.

I would recommend Mike Rinaldi's TankArt series. I have a number of different how-to books and TankArt is the cream of the crop for me. Engaging writing style, easy to understand technique explanations complemented with large and clear step-by-step images.

I agree with David, there is just so much info on the net. Having recently returned to the hobby after many years I too needed a refresher course, this site alone has a boat load of info as well as YouTube. I find myself spending hours on "research " , google it and you will find it.

I agree with all of you but nothing beats a good referencebook (in my opinion). Just ordered the FAQ-book by Andrea and, indeed, the TANKART books are on the wishlist. I have to admit I hardly ever paint tanks but this new referencebook on small vignettes got me triggerd. Small vignettes (based on a real picture) should be fun to make (like my Trench horror and BoB dio's). So I guess every once in a while a tank must be made...
As for figure painting, the "Painting Guide for WW2 figures" is out of sale almost everywhere....

Looks really good but not cheap the new AK FAQ Diorama

I like also AK FAQ 2 for AFV

For figure painting depend form your medium and level you want, you want just nice figure to put near your tank o you want a "figurinist level" to put a sigle figurine on a base?

For me the best is "Painting Miniatures" from the Master Danilo Cartacci i like also becose use a many different medium

i like also this series..

Thanks! Well, the figure-painting I like most is the one pictured in this new book sbout small diorama's. I love the dark striping and highlighting that makes the details more prominent.

As suggested above, there are so many good references (printed or online) these days from different authors of different eras, with different skills and styles, you really have to looks into them to find your favorite ones.

For me I tried to get them all (when budget allows) and learned a bit of new things from them every time. I was never disappointed. To name a few, Shepard Paine, Tony Greenland and Francois Verlinden are my early sources of inspiration on pure modelling craftsmanship. Then the more recent ones from Mig Jimenez, Michael Rinaldi, Adam Wilder and Joaquin Garcia Gazquez all expanded the modelling dimension to a new level.

If you are more interested in dioramas, other than the FAQ book, you may also try Joaquin Garcia Gazquez's new book "Vignettes- a how to guide". Then there are the "Landscape of War Vol. 1 & 2" books from Accion Press, also very good reference.

Hi Paul, thanks. I just ordered the FAQ book from Andrea. It was available here at Bol.com and I still had a voucher for Bol.Com.
Now I'm looking for the Andrea FAQ-book on figure painting but that's a quest if you want it in English

There is still one copy of French version of the Figure Painting Book by Joaquin Garcia Gazquez on Amazon UK at very reasonable price.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Peinture-Figurines-Seconde-Guerre-Mondiale/dp/2352502470/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1485694424&sr=1-2

Hope this help.

Hi,
I have recently reviewed the Guide to Vignettes by Joaquin Garcia Gazquez here http://armorama.com/review/12891

I was pleasantly surprised with it and liked a lot, and sincerely recommend it since it covers all the areas you are looking for.

And at 32 euros plus shipping, it should not break your budget...

Yep, I will order it. It got me triggerd.
I'm also thinking about ordering the FAQ2 3rd edition on painting AFV by Mig Jimenez, AK Interactive.
Still looking for a good figure-painting reference. The FAQ book is nowhere for sale (accept that stupid Amazon)

Depending on your interests, this one maybe helpful:

And despite not being military related, I have to say that the sample pages of this one look interesting...
