Hello there

Been reading a bit more about the Arnhem battles and it got me inspired to have a crack at a "Hummel" Tiger.
I have the Dragon "Wittman" Tiger 6730 as a Base - I figured it has a lot of extras that would be easier to omit/remove than add. I had planned to use it in a campaign here but ran out of time.

The plan is either #131 or the as yet (I believe) unidentified Tiger photographed near the bridge (see link below).

Any "specifics" anyone can add regarding either of these Tigers would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Sean

Converting Dragon's Wittman Command Tiger can be problematic. All of the mantlets in the box are the "flat" Tiger (P) type. Fortunately for you, that's what Tiger "131" had.

Your next problem is the tracks; Tiger "131" was upgraded with the later cleated type, though they were very worn when it was lost.

The tank used to have smoke launchers on the turret, but they were very neatly removed with no tabs remaining on the roof.

It had no loader's periscope.

S-mine equipment seems to have been removed, leaving the welded strips on the hull roof. You will want to add two of these at mid left, because your kit has only an antenna hole there. The permanent connectors at the hull rear corner were there also.

The engine hatch had the supporting "legs" in the usual place, behind the handles.

There were frames at the rear mudguards.

I don't know what kind of engine the tank had. The hull MG seems to have had no bolts, but I think they used to be there. The driver's visor had closed-up periscope holes. Probably there was a HL210.

The sprockets were the final "flat" type.

Oddly, the tank seems to have a small cylinder added to the hull rear side on both left and right, and possible more things added on the left. I have no idea what these additions are.

Finally, the tank was not a Command Tiger, so you will have to convert the appropriate parts of Dragon's kit.

Thanks David,

The switch from a command Tiger to "regular" is in hand but the other info is the stuff I was in danger of missing.

New tracks are on the way anyway as I'm not so keen on the DS ones..

Cheers
