Hi everyone,

I was considering getting the Dragon Wirbelwind with zimmerit kit. But I recall reading from various reviews on the Dragon Ostwind with zimmerit that the Ostwind came with zimmerit applied to the top of the hull. Dragon left this out on the Ostwind kit and it seems to be a mistake.

Does anyone know if Wirbelwinds had zimmerit applied to the top of the hull similar to the Ostwind?

I don't necessarily need to see pictures. I will take your word for it.

AN Ostwind came with zimmerit on the top, probably the prototype on a Ausf. F hull with the zimmerit applied enthusiastically when it was returned for refurbishment. Zimmerit was only supposed to be applied to vertical or sloped surfaces, any mine landing on the flat top would stay there - zimmerit or not

I have never seen Zimmerit applied to the roof of a Flakpanzer IV Wirbelwind. The Wirbelwind were built at Ostbau, an army facility that used reconditioned Panzer IV chassis of various vintages, and only fabricated new turrets and mounts. I doubt they were ever part of the Zimmerit program (if only for reasons of limited man hours). Panzer IV Ausfuerung H or J chassis returned for rebuild often had had residual Zimmerit, while G models did not. Application of the material was terminated in September, 1944, in any case.

Thanks for the posts. So I guess it will be ok to use the Dragon Wirbelwind out of the box (and even the Dragon Ostwind is ok I guess? Because it was only one example that had zimmerit applied to the top). Maybe I will just make the zimmerit look worn/.
