Can anyone with experience building the Asuka/Eduard/Taska M4A1 Sherman tell me what size tow cable would be required? Measuring the hull fittings and the supplied cable ends, my calipers indicate 0.8mm would be about right but I thought I'd check before I order something. Since it takes two buses and 1 1/2 hours for me to get to a store, I'd just as soon pay for mail order.

Thanks
Bob

Can't help you with the wire size, but Eureka XXL set should fit the bill...

"The length of the Sherman towing cable was 20', and it was 1 1/8" in diameter."

Found on this site: http://www.usarmymodels.com/ARTICLES/Sherman%20Corner/Glossary%20of%20the%20Sherman%20Tank.html

This would make 0.8 mm in 1/35th scale
0.816 to be far to exact but 0.8 mm + some paint would come very close

Thanks for the replies. My failing 67 year-old eyes have no problem reading the calipers, but trying to match the jaw opening to the hull fittings was a challenge.

Good thing I don't build 1/72 scale.

Tip:
Get an assortment of rods in smaller dimensions, sets of miniature drillbits is one option. When measuring a small hole simply test fit the rods or drillbits until you find a good fit, or a bracketing fit where the smaller is too loose and the next larger is too large. Measure the "perfect" rod/drillbit with the calipers. Piece of cake

That's a good idea. I should have dug my 61-80 drill set out of the closet before I fiddled with large jaws on tiny fittings.
