LOOKS VERY INTERESTING !

I'm really conflicted about these products. On one hand it makes it easy to create great effects, on the other they turn the hobby into a paint-by-the-numbers exercise... Any ideas?

I'll help you out. It's a gimmick to separate you from you money.

Good looking product. Would like to simulate mud, water on my project's streets but wonder how difficult this would be... Never used any similar product for this purpose. Might need some how to vids first before pulling the trigger...

seriously, it's probably 90% Elmers/white glue and 10% acrylic pigment anyone could mix. Never mind the quality feel the profit margin.

Tim, honestly I doubt it is so simple. First of all, making realistic water (and there are two products in the set) is not easy at all.
And for the ground, you should add either ground or plaster to the glue to get the right texture, and not sure you get the same effect.

Probably advanced and old users can mix their own recipes with good results, however these products are easier to use, quicker and produce consistent results each time you use it.

So, I really think there is a place for them.

As for Andras comment, yes, it makes things easier but at the same time allow to add your own touch if you want, with additional pigments or colouring.

I actually agree with everything you say – and incidentally you don’t get enough thanks for bringing all these new products to our attention, so a sincere thank-you from me.

All the same I believe I’m entitled to an opinion and others can take it or leave it. What irritates me is that products like this & e.g. “mud” concoctions tend to stultify experimentation. Rather than work something out for oneself, fail, try again and learn, and hopefully eventually succeed, it’s handed on a plate and nothing is ventured or gained. Apart from the wallet being lighter.

And sure, taking that argument to its logical conclusion why do I buy kits with pre-formed parts at all when I should be scratch-building everything? Good point, I don’t claim to be perfect. All I know is that the most rewarding part of this hobby for me is when I depart from the given & come up with something as good or better of my own, and I suspect I’m not alone.

But we’re not all the same, one thing I am sure of is that some people will buy this stuff in a heartbeat, good luck to them & I’ll no doubt rave about how good it looks in a dio.

Mud and water -how does it get any more basic than this for dios? Would like to give it a try and report back on my results.

Sounds like a nice project. I worked with their "Water" a while ago and that worked nicely. If this works the same it will save time from "bending boilderplate" and allow to concentrate on other elements of a dio/vignette. Love this type of stuff.

At the end of the day, it's just that... everyone can choose their way and work more or less, focus on building or painting, etc. The only important thing is to have fun

For the size of the pot I would go for their large bottles of still water.
when you think it is £5 for 30ml in those jars
