I am working on a model of the British Mark 1 tank . I have been unable to answer this question. Did the Mark 1 use grousers, also known as spuds, on their tracks. I know the Mark 2 did but can't find out if the Mark 1 did. Any help is welcome.

Found this photo of "Lusitania" wearing a set of 'spuds', photo says it was a Mark I, but other source says it was a Mark II. Not much help I'm afraid. Al

Hey

The Tank Heavy Mk. I had a wider driver/commander cab,
than the Mk. II,-V, there were no space for the "track-
Spud" grouser. But i have seen photo of the Mk. I female
HMLS Kia-Ora in the middle-east, with track-extenders.
(Osprey New Vanguard "British Mark I Tank 1916" page 36.)

The Takom Mk. I kits, have the wrong narrow Mk. II-V driver cab.

Best regards

Mk 1 tank with grousers near Arras :

"First Battle of the Scarpe. British infantry congregating around a ditched tank on the Fampoux road shortly after the area was captured by elements of the 4th Division on 9 April 1917."
