This could be a great set if the sculpting holds up. Very nice to see different subject matter like this.

Like you said Chris, if the molding holds out, you can build a nice Mogadishu, Somalia diorama with Rangers, Delta and these.

One man's Freedom Fighter is another man's terrorist/insurgent. It just depends on which side of the fight you are.
These figures would be very useful. I hope they end up being very nice.

Or tuck them into a post-apocalyptic scene from the early part of the breakdown, when it's still possible to loot for supplies. Ruined buildings, an ex-SWAT armored truck with 'POLICE' crudely sprayed over, and this crew.

It is a pitty, as almost all are wearing closed shoes except one of them, maybe two. I would prefer all in sandals. Anyway good also for somali pirates.

I hope this opens the door to other manufacturers to follow suit with their African figure ideas. African militias and Arctic figures are sorely underrepresented in the figure market.

This kit has been released now. Has anyone bought it and can comment on the figures' quality and appearances?
Furthermore, does anyone make spare 1/35 AK-47 ammo chest pouches to add to these figures?

FedEx just dropped these guys off on my doorstep. They look pretty good, the RPG launcher has got to be one of the nicest injection molded RPG 7 available; there is a bunch of AK's as well. The reloads for the RPG come in a separate carrier with the flaps open and several loose rounds are included on the launcher sprue. The figures aren't bad at all, they look useable. So far as the concern about footwear goes, three are wearing sandals/flip-flops and three have running shoes.

John, do the AK-47 fighters have enough ammo pouches?
The boxart seems to show that they just carry AK-47s and no vest pouches or bags for spare magazines (reloads). Thanks.

Figure E does have a chest rig, Figures C&D have a pouch of some sort, and B has a chest rig that I can't swear is for mags. C is also toting a bandolier. Most are molded on, but it wouldn't take major surgery to replace them if you wanted to.

What an assumption that Africans should be poor, hungry and sloppy dressed.
Have a look at the web and find out that most countries in Africa do show prosperity and a healthy population. Only a few do have severe problems, but even in unstable states the armed guys are well fed.
How I know? By going there regularly, not only Ghana or Tanzania, but to most of the countries.
But let's stop arguing about politics and return to modeling: a useful and promising set, which for sure turn up more often!

Context is the key here...think Somalia..where they where nicknamed "skinnies" by US Troops there.

Think this a much needed kit and hope Trumpeter comes out with even more. Soon as I got my first one, ordered 2 more. Going for zombie/apocalypse survivors/zombie dioramas. Hope to modify the guy with the tan shirt/boonie hat so he looks a lot older....ex-Vietnam vet. The guy hunched over will be holding a box of food he got from a near by store while trying to avoid being seen by zombies. The other guy just standing there w/rifle in his hand will be doing guard duty while others are searching for supplies in a store.
Not only do we need more modern non-white figures, but modern women of different races AND in combat gear. And how about teenagers/young kids, male & female?

They don't have to be African guerillas...give them Caucasian heads and a light skinned paint job for other contexts. Not being racist...just sayin'.
