Hello guys,

I was wondering if the m923 was used to transport 203mm ammo.
I have an old completed model that i want to put some ammo in the cargo bed.
If yes how many packets could be carried ?

TIA !

Ge

Yes, M923s were used as ammo carriers for M110/8" howitzers. I'm not sure how many rounds could be carried, but each round weighs about 200 lbs, so 1200 lbs per pallet of ammo. You can do the math on the capacity.

Of course I can't find any pics of the operation. The closest I can find is of its predecessor, the M54 5-ton, being loaded down with arty rounds in Vietnam.

Hi Gino,

Of course it takes an artillery guy to give the answer.
I do'll the math !..

Thanks,

Ge

Addition: according to FAS.org the payload is 10.000 lbs off-road.
Therefore 8 pallets would be acceptable.

Gino, your pictures show about 4 pallets per side, so two rows of four would do the trick.

Yup, 8 pallets sounds right.

Found the pic...
