Can tell you what that is specifically, but try here:
http://www.militaryfactory.com/armor/detail.asp?armor_id=395Covers a bunch of variants. I figured it was a command or comms version of a BTR-80 based on the K1Sh1 chassis

Could also be a satellite on the move commo variant There is a French VAB with a similar "bulb" on its top. It was used in Afghanistan in the logistics convoy.

I am almost done with my MAZ537 tank transport, an I want to do a BTR but not sure what one. I got the Abrams Squad BTR special book. But I want to do a Syria tank and troop transport dio. This is giving me some great ideas in this post.

William, if you want to do Syria, the only thing is the Syrians never had the Maz, they used Mercedes semis. The Russians would have brought in there more modern trucks for hauling and recovery. I could be wrong, never say never, I've just not seen any in Syria.

I guess Olivier is talking about the VAB "VENUS" variant :

Sorry for the misunderstanding, my current project is the Maz 537 by itself, or something on it.
The BTR would be with a tank that Syria is using or used as my next project. It just inspired me to see a BTR. I haven't built one yet.
Happy modeling
William

This would indeed make for a "different" BTR. Which BTR-80 would be the most suitable for a conversion?

The Trumpeter BTR-80 kit.
If you mean which kit does the OOP SP Designs kit work on, then the DML BTR-80 kit.

Decals for a Syrian vehicle are included in Trumpeter MAZ-537 kit #010006 (late production)...
I guess this could be one of them, hauling a T-90A :
