A truly "awesome" diorama in every good sense of the word "awesome."

I'm particularly impressed by your attention to detail on the other vehicles and figures in the diorama given that the railway gun is so overwhelmingly large in comparison.

Are those jobs that'd be a whole day to watch and whenever you can find things that you have not seen before, amazing the obsessive attention to detail of every little thing...

Looking for the right words...but...most of them would be CANEXed by CMOT for unfamily-like. All the other words I come up with

just

aren't

big

enough.

Indeed!

Definitely a contender in the Wow Factor awards, Roger - only 5 years…and only half done?! So many questions, hopefully you’re writing a book about it, meanwhile can you give us at least a summary? But not one word per post or that could take another 5 years! And btw that’s quite a crowded airfield out back…

The diorama represents Dora's deployment at Leningrad. Following its success at Sevastopol, it was rushed to assist at Leningrad. Only thing we know is that she was set up in a wooded area about 17 miles outside Leningrad in June 1942. 17 miles may seem far but with a range of 25 miles, it was well within range of Dora. It was fully assembled and ready to fire but then it was suddenly disassembled and quickly taken out of the area due to the approach of the Soviet army. The dio is just a guess of what it would have looked like. Tracks would have to be laid for miles to reach the right spot.Dora was assembled on site so the assembly area is represented in the dio. A hill had to be found and then a valley blasted into the hill to put the firing curve so the Dora would be "hidden" during action. By June, much of the winter camouflage would have been washing off with the spring rains and flooding and mud would likely have been an issue thus the corduroy road. The front of the Dora shows what I think the rail repair crew might appear. Apparently, Dora could only fire about 3 high trajectory shots before the rail ties would shatter. The gun would be pulled back and the ties quickly repaired. I am working on one of the 2 Fiesler Storch's assigned to her and the mobile AA unit that accompanied her. Altogether, there were 5,000 laborers, engineers, gun crew, guards, flak crew, etc. involved in getting Dora in action. I didn't want the dio to be about a big gun but rather the incredible feat of engineering required for her to function. Never planned on all of this when I first built the Dora. I just have this in my brain and I want to see it in real life.

I have no words to describe how wonderfull awesome is your job!

Really, really, really f****** awesome! Show stoper!

as I said before this is overall, obviously,an impressive piece of work in scale and scope, etc. The most interesting thing to me though,is the building and then use in the dio of all of those "oddball" vehicles that you almost never see anywhere. Very fascinating.

Agreeing with all the ones who have posted before me. What an impressive build. Every detail, really everything seems to be in there and implemented. This must be the most amazing diorama out there that I have ever noticed.
Atemberaubende Detailarbeit!

STUNNING! Simply Stunning!
How many people are on your model-building team? After 5 years, I MIGHT have the Dora together, and maybe one small truck. But that's it. Just amazing!
