I have the Takom kit and a replacement metal/resin barrel. Then I found that the replacement barrel is longer than the kit barrel, and the muzzle is different. This is an early 1960's AMX-13 for France. What barrel is wrong?

I presume you mean the DEF Models barrel? Here are links to pics of the muzzle brakes on 2 early and a late amx13/75's, all of which the DEF muzzle brake appears to match.

Regarding length, the DEF product is multi-use for the FL10 and FL-11 turrets and Israeli M50. So it has to accommodate the max length of those 3, probably the M50. You would therefore need to scale from or refer to a side view photo photo for the correct length. A Google for "AMX 13 drawings" finds several drawings, but none dimensioned. There is a dimensioned 90mm version that you could convert from.

The gun for the FL11 turret is not the same as the one used on the FL10.
The muzzle brake for the 75mm gun AND the 90mm gun are identical for the simple reason that the gun were the same. The 90mm gun was "re-bored" (and the breech modified of course.)
I have a AMX 13/75 in my garden (or nearly ) I could get you the correct length if you're not in a hurry.

Ah, now there's what we call a tank!!
When I did my 18 months in 1979 I was a gunner on that one.
It was not allowed to shoot while the barrel was in a 90 degree position because the tank would fall over.....

Being a Dutchman, I guess your served on the 105mm gun tank. It had much more power than the original 75 mm gun.

Going slightly off-topic, but I understood that the gun in the FL-11 turret was essentially the same gun as that in the Fl-10 but with manual loading and a double-baffle muzzle brake (which DEF of course don't supply). Presumably the earlier SA49 version with the lower muzzle velocity. But wasn't the SA49 autoloading version also used in the early Fl-10's before the SA50 came along? Grateful if Olivier or someone could clarify.

From the very beginning the FL 10 turret was fitted with the SA 50 high velocity gun. I have the initial version of the TM and it is clear about it.
