While looking for info for the post on the ammo carrier for the M12, I found reference to the M23 Ammunition trailer. Does anyone out there know of a source for images of the M23? I can't seem to find any.

Don[/quote]

FYI - Photos of M23 Ammo Trailer: There is one photo in the Ampersand book "High Speed Tractor". One in Doyle's "Catalog of US Military Vehicles". Three in Greenhill Publishing's book "The American Arsenal" and a couple in the new book on the T26 tractor by Gibbs.

That is all I have found so far. I am now waiting for my copy of the original TM for the M23 to show up in my mailbox before I start building two of them for my scratch built 1/35 scale Mack NO to pull.

The M23 had a rear hitch and I like the concept of the Mack pulling an "Ammo Train!" That's the reason for my needing to build at least two copies of the M23.

I will keep you posted as the project progresses.

Mike Koenig

The 7 1/2 ton Mack did not require the use of the M5 Limber when towing the first trailer. The 155mm gun, the 8 inch howitzer and the M23 Ammo Trailer could all be connected directly to the Mack thanks to a special "load sharing" hitch designed by Mack.

(Mike forgot to mention that this photo, as well as many others, appears in Allied-Axis 30)

Don't tell anyone I said so...

Well Pat you are absolutely right. I just pulled these photos out of my reference files. Do you need me to take down the photo of the M23 getting sprayed with protectorant and the one where the 2 M23's are being pulled by the HST? I do not have editing rights on this thread but I am sure I could get with Jim Starkweather and we could work something out.

Or I could ask Jim to add photo credits? OR I could take a photo of the cover of your Allied-Axis book and reference the many fine photos of the M23 contained within?

Willing to do whatever you feel is appropriate. - Mike.

p.s. The photo with the Sterling truly did come from the author with permission for use and I believe everything else came from the open access US military Tech Manual.

Again, very sorry. I would have willingly given you photo credit! Stupid oversight on my part. Apologies!

I'm just teasing you!

Thanks for your kind words, though. Mainly, I don't want people to get the idea that there is no available reference for the trailer. I have always really liked this subject and David dug deep to make it a very complete feature.

You are doing a great job on yours. Keep up the good work.

(It wouldn't kill ya to make a mold!)

I am WAY over due to add in this footnote to the photos posted here:

Many very rare reference photos on the M23 Ammo Trailer can now be found in the Allied-Axis book #30 by Ampersand Publishing provided to us by Pat Stansell and David Doyle.

I highly recommend this reference source! Mike K.
