I received the new Legend detail set for HobbyBoss Leopard 2A4M CAN kit yesterday. It looks great, as most Legend products do.
Could someone please give me some information about the use of PERI-R17A2 sight on Canadian 2A4M Leos? Legend include very nice parts for it in the set - with hinged armor cover for the optics, not present on other Leopard variants using this sight. I cannot find any photos of this sight in use on that Canadian tank variant online. Is it a new modification? When was it introduced? Any photos?...

What i found from review on leopard club, its actually peri r17a3 L4, which is new addition to leopard 2a4m can.
The resin parts, most notably, have TWO alternative PERI-R17 commander's sights. The first is a much nicer detailed R17A1 to directly replace the original kit part. The second more up-to-date sight is the R17A3 L4 which is literally just being introduced across the 2A4M CAN fleet. This is quite distinctive as it is virtually the same as the sight fitted to 2A5/2A6/2A7 but with a large protective door on the front. It has also been fitted already to the Swiss Panzer 87WE.

What information are you looking for?
The sight is actually the PERI R17A3...externally no different from the R17A2.
This upgrade was scheduled from day one of arrival of the Leopard 2A4M CAN but took a while for it to be initiated. Originally the tanks were all to be shipped to a central depot for the upgrades but the logistics were challenging. So, KMW sent full time technicians to Canada to conduct the upgrades. It took time to organize all that.
The sight upgrades are ongoing with only a limited number of tanks pulled off line at any given time to conduct the upgrades. The turrets need to be pulled to complete all the fire control upgrades. The Commander's control panel is very impressive.
Concurrent to the sight upgrades the hulls are being modified with attachment points being welded on the lower front hull for the future implements (dozer, mine roller, and mine plow) Unfortunately, Legend did not include the mounts in their conversion. The lower side hull add-on armour panels are also being modified. They were welded on the hulls during production. The plates are being removed and re-attached using bolts.
For reference material I suggest my Armour Piercing Photography DVD Set. I re-released it including additional detailed images of the PERI sight, the implement mounts, and some lower armour modification images. Turret pull images are also included.
My reference images were used by Legend to create the PERI upgrade conversion.
This is about as modern of a conversion as it comes with the Leopard still being upgraded.

Thanks a lot Jason! You provided (here and on FB) all the information I need for now and more! I now need to decide whether to build my kit to represent the tanks as they looked until recently, or include all those recent modifications to make it even more unique. I already have reasonably good references for the earlier 2A4M CAN configuration, but if I decide to add all the latest changes, I will certainly consider ordering your DVD
Can you estimate the shipping cost to Poland?
