Hi,
Is the engine and compartiment from a M60A1 different from an M60A3.
Have some one pics to explain this if necessary?
TIA
pascal.

I just answered a similar question on Missing Links, but I answered it in terms of the engine and not the compartment. I am almost positve that the M60A1 engine compartment is the same as the M60A3 hull. It has been about 15 years since I've had to pull the pack on an M60A3 and even longer ago (20-21 yrs?) that I pulled the pack on an M728 CEV (based on the M60A1).
Basically all the M60, M60A1, M60A2, M60A3, AVLB, CEV and M48A5 engines are interchangeable. The engine series went from AVDS-1790-2C to -2CA, -2D, and then -2DA as improvements and modernizations were made.

SABOT is correct in that the engine compartment for all variants fo the M60/60A!/60A2/and M60A3 are the same, with exception of the M60A2 with the compressed air -gun evacuation system (Note the Tamiya M60A2 has the early gun system and has engine compartment as the M60A1/A3). The engines are visually different in minor areas between an M60A3 engine and early M60A1 engines. The visual differences are mainly in the area on top/front/right of engine where crew could drain the fuel filters and take oil samples from the top of the engine compartment. The majority of the other changes between the early engines (-2a & -2b) and the later engines (-2c, 2d & as SABOT states -2da) are "internal" engine upgrades and generally not noticeable in 1/35th scale. I do not really know if the fuel filter drains on newer engines are readily visible in 1/35th scale.
Unless you are into "Super" detailing the engine, I would not worry about it.
Jeff.

The only thing different on the M60A3 was the clean air filtration system to remove the dust before it got into the engine. The inside of the engine compartment was the same on both tanks.
