While the Quad is in the paint shop i have moved on to my next build. Going with the Roden 1/35 scal M37 3/4 tonne truck (Vietnam era). Going to modify this one to move it from a bog-standard truck to an armoured one (not fully armoured) - adding 1 50cal MG on the front of the truck bed (possibly from the Eduard M4 Sherman kit, or may get the Academy 50cal/30cal set). This will be more WHIF so markings will probably stay the same as the kit one...
anyway, box & sprue shots and some progress:

thanks Roy...
further progress... my first Roden kit - some of the fit is not 100% positive but the detail is nice... engine just placed on at the moment as there are more parts to go in...

bit more progress... just the chassis so far. I believe the whole lot (including the engine) is OD. Think this time round I am going to build the chassis, cab & body and paint them as 3 sub-assemblies before combining

Progress... cab and body only placed on to give overall feel. Next steps on the cab look fiddly so going to try to scratch the gun mount and complete the body first

after a break i have finally got back on this one... done the work to add the 50 cal (academy kit) on to the rear... based on some evidence, personal preference and my scratch building skills - have neatened it up a little since the photos were taken....

More progress... "Canvas" texture on cab back and roof and seats from tissue paper (needs tidying up when fully dry). Also 2 types of .50 cal. Not sure which is better (think probably the short barrelled....)....

Talking about the .50's, here are the two variants included in Academy set :

I guess you'd better go with the HB one...

some progress... the easy build is done, need to paint the cab interior and add the dashboard decals before progressing further (only meant to paint the interior cab but got carried away - do think it needs to be a lot lighter tho for the exterior)

fraglie roof supports on... just a few more bits around the front then it can be painted (also going to try to make sandbags from milliput for in front of the windscreen and over the wheel arches. Roof/rear tarpaulin just rested on now to give solidity while frame sets

Progress.... Bit of line work and Matt varnish.... May leave it this weathered.... Sandbags need a little work as well but that can wait until the body work is all glued down

Very nice looking build. I have one in the stash to do. One comment, and this was only my experience, was that I don't recall our vehicles ever carrying the pioneer tools. They were usually left off and just the empty rack with straps left.Of course I was usually around the bigger bases so others might have carried them. Any way, just my thoughts. Carry on with a great build. Wayne

What type of tissue paper do you use and what do y'all brush on the tissue paper? {Kleenex, Gift, etc...}

The postman just delivered my VMS order. It allows you to form all types of paper and allows for them to be gently manipulated, even after it has dried. Cost something like $20usd.
