I just got the Hobbyboss EBR-10 armored car. Looking up pictures, I note that some pictures showed a barrel that extends just past the vehicle front edge, while others show a much longer gun barrel. I already have a DEF Model barrel the same length as the long barrel. The longer is the later version I assume?

90mm long barrel is the later version.

There are three versions of the EBR armored car.
The EBR-10 mounts the FL10 turret with 75mm gun - this is the longer barrel you are seeing.
The EBR-11/75 mounted an FL11 turret with 75mm gun - this is the shorter 75mm gun. The FL11 turret is quite different from the FL10.
The EBR-11/90 mounts the 90mm gun. The muzzle break is quite different then the 75mm version so it is usually recognizable. The barrel length is not much different then the EBR-11/75 so the previous post is incorrect about the longer barrel being a 90mm.

So the more modern gun has the shorter barrel? What irony. Thank you.

Hi Tom,
here is the original EBR mod51 fitted with the FL 11 turret and the 75 mm gun.
The gun has a double baffle muzzle brake.
here is the EBR mod F1 or EBR 90 F1 fitted with the FL 11 turret and the 90 mm gun.
The third version is the EBR mod55 fitted with the FL 10 turret and a different 75 mm gun than the original one. The whole turret is the same mounted on the AMX 13 light tanks. The hull was slightly different hence the mod55 denomination.
To my knowledge DEF Model barrel is only good for the third option which is yours by the way.
Unfortunately there is no conversion for the early 75 mm EBR yet.
On a side note, Hobby Boss messed up their instructions and have you place parts in a wrong location especially on the hull. This concerns the light clusters on the fenders (look at my two pictures, the front clusters are both of the narrow type unlike what HB tells you to do), the fire extinguisher handle( there is no handle on the right side, you'll need to fill the location holes)), the number of PE bolts to glue onto the inner side of the fenders (hard to see once finished though)...
If you do not lock the barrel with the gun travel lock, do not set the lock vertically. Each leg rested on the fenders and was secured by a strap.

Actually, Azimut has had an EBR 11/75 turret available for quite some time.

The French at least were all about High Explosive [either against soft target or focussed to deal with harder targets] ammunition during that time period, so they had no need for a long barrel to increase muzzle velocity.

Yes Jon,
I should have said a correct conversion. Azimut offering is crap. I used it or tried to do. The turret is undersized and poorly detailed, most of the PE parts are useless, the most interesting part (apart from the gun muzzle brake) is the MAC 31 MG. The ring mount is quite useless and needs a lot of work to like the actual one.

I was hoping the kit would work for 1962 Europe and the DEF Model barrel be appropriate too, I prefer using the EBR-10 over, say the AMX tank not only because it would be an easier build, but purposely because it looks weird, and therefore would add some menace to the picture.

just sayin'....i love this vehicle; and i enjoyed the model. My basic thought is that the weirder the vehicle, the more I like it....and there aren't many stranger than this puppy. Post pics when you're done!
