If any of you know of the story of Neil Roberts and Taku Ghar, someday Id like to model a diorama of Chief Roberts fighting to the very end, the figure would have to represent what DEVGRU would wear in snow in 2002, Roberts was carrying a SAW but would be fighting with grenades and his pistol at the end, any ideas? at IPMS Nats last year I saw an awesome "Lone Survivor"diorama. It seemed that the builder had done a great deal of research about it

"Robert's ridge", by Malcolm McPHERSON; "Two wars", Nate SELF; "Not a good day to die", Sean NAYLOR, would all be good places to start for references. I've the later two, both are good reads, with "Not a good day to die" being the more comprehensive of the two, which I'd recommend. SEAL specific uniform was for the most part DPU; the detailed equipment you'd have to research further, but I am fairly confident that, unless you make a drastic mistake, no one is going to know who wasn't there. Good luck with the build, these men are all deserving of any recognition.

Don, have a look at Osprey "Raid 39" Takur Ghar by Leigh Neville. Good reference material and colour images of Rangers wearing their winter kit....artworks with SEAL wearing 3 piece desert cam (gore tex jacket), CIRAS, PRO TEC helmet. Just another resource to expand with. Cheers mate.

There's this drawing...

I'd start with the Verlinden 1/35 US SOF kit such as this one:

Or this one:

These are the Verlinden SOF kits that have the kneepads, sweatshirt, helmets, heads, etc. Kitbash them together and you can make your 2002 SEAL. Use Live-Resin parts if you need to upgrade what Verlinden doesn't have.

The Verlinden US Spec Ops parts set has standing, kneeling, and squatting legs = very helpful. Bear in mind that's THREE pairs of legs, but TWO torsos, so you can't make three full figures...you need more body parts

The part kit's arms are kind of useless in poses. I'd recommend picking up another Verlinden 1/35 modern US set with the arm poses that you want and then kitbash with the Verlinden 1/35 US SOF parts kit.

The Verlinden parts kit gear won't pass for anything beyond around 2008, but from 2000 to 2008 or so, it's a very good starter kitbashing set. There are 1/35 pistols and guns from Trumpeter and Live-Resin that you can buy to upgrade.

The Verlinden set has that hooded sweatshirt you're looking for, or find this Verlinden kit on eBay: "Verlinden US Navy SEALs in Afghanistan."
