Hi fellas,
SO I have some WWII German figures lined up in my next few projects and I have some doubts that I have the right paints for their uniforms.
I have some German SPG crewmen, Dragon kit #6029. What color, and really what paint, would be appropriate for their uniforms? I have Vallejo Panzer Aces 70.334 German Tank Crew I but that looks to be too green compared to the paint guide.
I also have a few regular German Army tank crewmen. I think that the proper name of the color of their uniforms is Field Gray (or Feldgrau). Again, the Vallejo Pz. Aces paint (which is 100% advertised as a historically accurate paint mix) looks too light and too green.
Is the Vallejo paint the right color? Or have I been duped?:-?
What paints do you guys use for German Army tank/SPG crewmen?

Self propelled gun crew wore either tanker uniforms in Field Gray wool (a gray-green with a hint of brown), or reed green cotton fatigues in warm weather, which could be cut much like the wool uniform, or take the form of a coverall.
Piping on collars and shoulder straps would usually be artillery red rather than panzer pink.
If you Google German World War Two uniforms in an image search, you'll get plenty of examples showing the range of colors seen on preserved examples.

This is a well known image that may answer your question about shades...
All of them are supposed to be authentic.

Field grey is just like olive drab. An infinite variety of shades so you can have a company formation and no two soldiers have identical coloration. Even in the 1990s with Army BDUs the colors were all over the map.
Field grey during both world wars varied from green to grey to brown depending on the dye lot and fabrication of cloth.
