Changes to profile settings?

Can site members make changes to the stuff already contained in one's profile? Many folks have some quotation or remark in the lower left-hand corner of their posts. I clicked on the settings, and then the modify profile,, but not being that computer savvy, I cannot figure out where/how to add such a quote. Thanks for any help!

Click on 'settings' in the upper right corner and then on 'modify profile' in the middle of next page.
