I always thought it was just a way to differentiate different vehicles. Desert Sand and Tropen which is desert sand with green. if you saw them side by side you'd describe the tropen pained vehicle as the "green one".

Anthony,
As much as I'd love to tuck into the Tiger, I fly overseas in a week, and my bench is currently covered with a PZ IVh. I won't have time to get into it until August at best. I'll be lucky to finish it before Crusader to Gazala fires up.
Jacob and Dan,
Thanks!
Gaz

I'm afraid that call out sheet is, based on all we now know, woefully inaccurate.

Tropen paint orders March 17, 1941 – Grunbraun RAL 8000 covering 2/3, Graugrun RAL 7008 covering 1/3.
Both of these colors have a slight pea green tint to them, thus the "green" Tunisian Tigers.

Wasn't it already established that "332" was NOT painted gray but in fact Dunkelgelb, especially considering the time frame given on the sheet falls inside the period of use of that color?

Some conjecture leads us to believe 332 and some of it's mates were actually RAL 8000/7008 having been diverted to Russia after the surrender in Tunisia.
Regardless, not Dark Gray.

I think that's where the "green" Tigers came from (RAL 8000/7008), IMHO:

You're not accounting for the guy being color blind.

trusting swatch colors would be easier for me to believe if I didnt come across color codes showing different in dunkelgelb.

Really? It's rather clear that what was available was used and that the results of that use varied.
He even refers to how modelers want a "right" or "wrong" pattern or color and that it simply doesn't exist. There are the standard colors that in actual usage varied enormously. There is no right or wrong, just a large ballpark where anything in the lines is fair. You like a paint? Use it so long as it's within the ballpark of possibilities. It's like quantom physics. The results are determined by the observer.

I personally find it difficult to believe enough stocks of US "olive drab" paint would have been that far forward at Kasserine Pass to have made it into German hands
Germany captured US equipment weeks before the battle of Kasserine Pass. This M3 was photographed on 20 January 1943 at the Karachoum Gap.

Cheers,
