"I know that it may not be the "perfect" example of a 222 used in Poland, but it makes me happy to try my hand at modifying the great classic Tamiya kit."

Given the choice between keeping the rivet-counters happy with absolute technical accuracy, or producing a beautiful diorama with a high degree of artistic impact, I find the artistic approach more pleasing. IMO a good model is one that tells a story, and it looks like your current effort is going to do that. If it turns out that the vehicle's ashtray is of the wrong pattern for 1939, oh well, you can correct that on the next one, LOL.

Hi Tim,

This is extremely nice work — really love the base. Thanks for taking the time to create the groundwork products list. Such information is always very useful. Thank you for sharing.

Keep it coming!🍺

Thanks for all the kind comments on this diorama thus far. I have not spent much time on this lately, but intend on getting back to it soon.

Doug/ Richard- I agree totally with you and appreciate the kind words. Some may find "joy" in rivet counting, others may find it with that pure artistic expression.

Mike- anytime, hope the list helps. I am also working on "Steps to Painting/Weathering a Model". Kind of a cheat sheet that I use as I go to keep my sanity.

I enjoy tree-branch counting.🌲 Lol! And your groundwork looks fantastic!

Absolutely helps. I tend to do the same thing — keep very detailed notes on everything because of my failing memory. 🤔

Looking forward to the next installment.

Cheers!🍺

Hello everyone. It has been a little while since my last update on this diorama. Things have been very slow on this build.

But I do have an update and photos of the build as it is progressing. I decided to build a sign and post to indicate where in Poland the diorama will take place. In this case near Chojnice.
The sign post was made from balsa wood and the sign on the wood was printed out on an ink jet printer then glued to the balsa. From there I weathered it with various washes and pigments.

The other photos show the DKW NZ350 as it has been initially primed, painted and the color modulation completed. The motorcycle will still need the rest of the weathering such as filters, washes, chipping, pigments, etc. completed.

Let me know what you think and thanks for looking.

Nice work so far, Tim! The base looks great; the detail you're putting on vehicles is paying off - nicely done!

Maarten- Thanks for the kind word.

Colin- I don't have any WIPs on the groundwork for this diorama, but I do plan on doing a detailed WIP on my next project. I will either be doing a small based vignette with a Willy's Jeep or a somewhat more complex diorama set in the bocage. More to follow on that once this one is finally complete.

Hi,
What is the diameter of the wire that you use for the motorcycle cable?

Richard- I use 32 gauge silver beading wire that I purchased from Hobby Lobby. It's very easy to work with and manipulate. I use my micro drill bits to put a small hole where I want the wire to be inserted (ie: spark plugs, clutch cable, etc). The I put a small dab of CA glue to hold it in place.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!

I am hoping that during the holidays I will find time to work on this diorama more often and post a few more updates.

Happy New Year Everyone!

Here are some photos of my WIP, mostly the DKW NZ350 being completed (minus the weathering that will tie it into the road colors), but that will happen when I attach it to the base. Any questions, please feel free to ask. Comments welcome!

Here are a couple of shots of the diorama base with the three main players of the scene tentatively placed on the road.

**inside the 222 is a completed interior which I will post photos of once the 222 is painted and the tape removed**
