I plan on building a 1973 Tiran 4 with the 105mm gun, and the early type of rear stowage bin. After a study of bins I came up with this design.

It is not finalized, but is what I think the bin looked like from the pictures on the net. I thought the bin was attached similar to the water/fuel can holders. Bolted on to round rods welded to the hull. I tried to keep it thin, so it might not print, I'll find out later this week.

Any thoughts, suggestions are welcome.

And this is a bunch of the welded on tie straps. I'm not 100% sure these will print, but I'm going to give it a try.

Hi Randell,

How large are these, please? I assume that these are the tie down loops on top of the turret bin. The reason I ask is. I could use some myself on an Achzarit I currently have underway.

Many thanks,

Kylie

Kylie,

I used a Tiran picture as a base for these, from the side of the turret bin. Most of these tend to be very crude, but that one has a very nice profile. These are not a factory made piece.

The tie strap is 1.7mm long, the base of the arc is 1.1mm wide and it is .74mm across the top. Thickness is .2mm.

I have been doing more checking on the pictures I have and I am going to make the thickness 3mm to make the bit stronger, and raise the arc a little. And, add a sprue tab.

Most of these on IDF tanks are longer, so I will add some variety and make some longer, 2mm and less nice.

Do you have a picture of a type in mind? These are easy to do.

Thanks,
Randy

The revised loops. All are a bit larger, but still tiny.

Have you seen the DEF Model Tiran 4/5 1973 conversion set? It has a photo etch bin it that would be perfect to use as a guide! I'm glad you're doing one in 3D, I much prefer that to photo etch.

Yep, I'd take a set, please. I need nine for the rear cargo basket. Pm me the details, thank you.

Florencio,
Gary,

The DEF set is very difficult to find, but I managed to get some dimensions from it. I've seen pictures of Gary's model and studied the rear bin, and all the pictures of the real bins I could find.

I thought the DEF bin was too narrow, and attached to the tank wrong.

In this side view you can see a gap between the bin and the rear hull, and 2 studs between the bin and hull, but no bolt heads on the side of the bin. Another view from the rear of another Tiran 4 shows 3 bolts holding the bin on.

These were the sources I used to make the bin. Once I find out if it will print out, it might be too thin, and work out a copy I will make it available.

Ok, give me a day to get the parts up at Shapeways and I'll send a PM.

Gary,

I've been lurking over there for a while.

I found your site googling Tiran's, saved it in my favorites, but have been too busy with health and home to join up.

Still, every time I look at the pics of your Tiran all I can think is WOW!

I had to remove the IDF loops set from Shapeways. No matter what I did they wanted the wire size to be .6mm minimum, which would make the parts useless for the loops.

Once the technology catches up I will try again. This is more than aggravating since I have seen thinner items that came out with no problems.
