I recommend OXO Good Grips. This is what I use.
I haven't tried it, but there is also this variation that can be mounted somewhere.

I find wearing rubber washing up gloves (dry obviously)normally does it. More grip and less pain. Even using the devices mentioned by the others, you may find the rubber glove still helps with holding the bottle while applying leverage to the cap. I favour the heavy duty black ones, though I'm sure pink or yellow works just as well.

I jus use wide rubber bands, one wrapped around the cap, the other wrapped around the bottle. Works every time. I've saved bike tire inner tubes cut to the appropriate length of about an inch. These will work even on stubborn bottles of enamel paint. I keep a convenient supply of these on my work bench in a wide mouthed plastic medicine bottle-- the kind that has the "child proof lid", with another similar sized bottle screwed into the top of the lid-- one for inner tube bands, the other for rubber bands. That way I always know where my supply of bands is.

Lou,
You might try a pair of hog ring pliers; I still use my thirty year old pair and they work great (the cheapest ones work best for hobby applications). If you have an ag supply store anywhere near they will have them. You could probably pick up a pig or two as well because, hey, bacon!
Cheers,
Rick

I have an old pair of Channel Locks that opens every bottle I have, even the welded closed Tamiya ones.
