Wasn't thinking and didn't mask the mounted pegs on the suspension bars. Painting the wheels separate, so they were left off while I primered the main body of the tank. I did think to put small pieces of paper towel in the mounting hoke on the wheels to keep primer out. I will mask the pegs before applying the base coat. Just wondering if I need to clean some of the primer off the pegs before mounting the wheels, or would the cement (Tamiya extra thin) be able to penetrate it enough to melt the plastic?

what kinda primer ?
Regardless - if the wheel will go on , the cement will make enough of a sticky bond thru the dissolution of the wheel styrene for a static model .
Don't rely on it at highway speeds

Howdy Y'all
I've made the same mistake and didn't catch it until after I painted the parts. I used CA glue, sort of worked...
If you are in the primer stage I would go ahead and try the plastic cement. Somethings gotta give. Are you able to sand some surfaces?
Good luck,

General rule is that parts to be cemented should be free of any paint or primer. Having said that I regularly violate that rule. However, one of the key areas of an AFV are the tracks and running gear. To ensure the strongest bond and proper alignment this is one area when I follow the general rule of plastic to plastic for best results.

Tamiya spray primer. I can likely clean some of it off. 1/35 scale, so I have access. Just be a time consuming process. Thinking it would also be a process taping each peg in the future for masking. I may try to make some small re-useable "covers" out of styrene tube for the paint job and future tanks. As for removing the primer now, I think I may try lightly scrapping some of it off with an Xacto blade.

that's lacquer base primer so the acetone in the cement will dissolve the primer - , more than enough

If I painted it with Tamiya, then I don't worry about masking. Their extra thin cement seems to go right through it.

Good info. May glue one on and see how well it holds. I'll definitely mask the pegs off before I paint a base coat though.

Maybe alcohol can clean the primer.
For masking, try liquid mask (Vallejo, Maskol, etc) which is easier and faster than tape.

Dip a QTip in lacquer thinner and use that to take the paint off the post.

I'll try that, thanks!
