Now that Takom is releasing the Grant/Lee kits, this set makes more sense for me.

Light Purple Brown - so that's that color on El Alamein Shermans. Neat color.

I admit the text and title should have been more clear, but what it really means is that these DAK colours, although mainly used for the Africa vehicles, could be found also in the Eastern Front, and some of them survived until 1944.
Therefore, the set is for DAK colours but not exclusively for DAK vehicles
Sorry for the poor editing!

That's the first I've heard of it. I always thought the disruptive colour on those Shermans was charcoal or green. I believe the orders specified black or very dark brown as alternatives but was not aware of the light purple brown being used. Can you cite any sources?

Carlos, your editing is 1st rate. It is Vallejo that tilted it -1944. Good point about the paint stocks being used up into 1944. I don't recall where but I read that some vehicles intended for DAK were diverted to Russia at times.

I wonder if the purple brown was a brown or olive that deteriorated to a purplish hue? There are some Technichrome images of OD B-17s that have faded to a purpley brown.

The Tropen mods (which included the colour scheme) were intended for hot climates including the southern Ostfront so some of the kit that went there in that scheme was always intended to go there. Tropen wasn't just for N Africa.
Strictly speaking the DAK was superseded in 1942 sothe set should perhaps have been called 'Tropen' - I hope Vallejo put more effort into researching the paint colours than naming the set.
